Brian Ortega v Max Holloway
There still might be time for Holloway to pull out of this fight, but for now it looks all systems go with the featherweight title on the line. So much depends on Holloway’s fitness and form here, because when he’s at his very best, he’s one of the scariest fighters in the world. Ortega has made a career out of underdog victories, but if Holloway can pick his moments, stay composed, and most importantly, stay off the ground, he’s every chance.
Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar
The Jets have enjoyed the better part of this match up winning four of their last five games against the Roar, but the same can’t be said about Newcastle’s season. The Jets have won just one of their last seven games, and now look to improve on last week’s 3-0 shutout loss to Melbourne City. Brisbane’s season has been equally up and down, although they are 3-3-1 as the away underdog in games against Newcastle. Given how inconsistent both of these sides are though, the draw looks the likely outcome.
Newcastle v Wolves
Wolves pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the season last week defeating Chelsea 2-1 at home. The win has kept Wolverhampton well above the relegation zone, and they can further improve on their ladder position with a big win at St. James’ Park on Monday morning. Newcastle drew level with Everton last week, but their home form tells a story this season. The Magpies have won just two of their eight games on home turf.
